Have a question before booking your taxi?
For any question about our services, rates or availability, please consult our dedicated section, which answers the most common questions to help you plan your journey with complete peace of mind.
Why does the taximeter already show an amount at the start of my trip (home pickup or other location)?
When you book a taxi, the driver travels from the nearest station to come and pick you up. This trip, called the 'approach run', is regulated and charged. The amount displayed on the taximeter at the start covers:
- The pickup fee (base flat rate),
- The waiting time fee (any time spent waiting),
- The kilometres driven to reach your pickup location.
This practice is transparent and governed by current regulations.
What is the initial amount shown on the taximeter if I take a taxi directly at a rank or train station, without booking?
In Carcassonne, the night rate applies:
- From 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM,
- On Sundays and public holidays,
- On snow-covered roads (when conditions require it).
Surcharge: Only the per-kilometre rate is increased by 50%. The pickup and waiting-time fees remain the same as during the day.
In what cases can a taxi legally refuse a fare?
A taxi driver is entitled to refuse service in the following situations, in accordance with current regulations:
Handling of packages:
- Refusal to carry packages up or down stairs (without assistance).
- Refusal if packages exceed 100 kg in total or 30 kg per unit, or risk damaging or soiling the vehicle.
Transport of animals:
- Only guide dogs for the blind are accepted without restriction. For other animals, the driver may refuse (unless agreed in advance).
Condition of the customer:
- Refusal if the customer is visibly intoxicated, for safety reasons.
Extended waiting time:
- The driver is not required to wait more than one hour without prior agreement with the customer.
Can I get a receipt or proof of payment for my taxi ride?
Yes, the taximeter includes a waiting-time fee (called the time charge or waiting fee), charged during stops or slowdowns (traffic jams, driving below 20 km/h, or waiting at your request).
Applicable rate: The price is regulated and displayed inside the vehicle. It is added to the per-kilometre rate and the pickup fee to reflect the actual duration of your journey.
Can a taxi driver charge me more than the amount shown on the taximeter?
Yes, certain regulated surcharges may be added to the taximeter amount. Here are the possible cases (rates to be checked with your driver or the local authority):
- Additional passenger: A surcharge may apply for a 4th adult passenger.
- Transport of an animal (dog, cat, etc.): A specific flat fee applies.
- Bulky luggage: A surcharge may be charged from the 2nd item placed in the boot.
- Motorway tolls: Only the toll fees incurred during your trip (at your request) may be added. Tolls for the approach run (driver coming to pick you up) cannot be charged.
When can a taxi accept advance payment for a fare?
Between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM, or for long trips, the taxi may request an advance payment toward the fare, which will be reconciled based on the amount shown on the meter on arrival.
In addition, if passengers are dropped off at a venue with multiple exits, the driver may require immediate payment of the fare.
